Audrey Helena Packenham was born on 16 January 1925 in Penshurst, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.1 She was the daughter of William Longford Packenham and Elsie May Wilson. Audrey states that she remained unnamed for six months due to disagreements with parents so called "Bub" Dad then pulled out Shakespeare and wrote down all the girls names. Then they decided, on Audrey Helena. She says also that she was declared to be an ugly baby. I am sure that was not true!
She also told me that she would have loved to have had a daughter! She worked as nurse in Pambula then Maclean New South Wales Hospitals until joining the WAAF as soon as she turned eighteen. She worked with John in their Service Station for two years assembling electron targets for the Army. She had an operation for Bowel Cancer and then couldn't return to heavy work so spent the next couple of years managing a second hand book shop. Then for the next twenty odd years was both pupil, and teacher of craft at three schools for seniors, and was still tutoring one pupil in 2003.1 She married Enoch John Summerill, son of Samuel Summerill and Kathleen Marguete Colfer, on 24 November 1945 in Namaccu Heads (Cof E), New South Wales, Australia, John and Audrey met at the stage door canteen in 1945. He was with the Royal Marine Engineers.1 John, his wife Audrey and their children Kenneth, Patrick and Peter who was only 9 months old emigrated to Australia. They left London on 1 March 1951 sailing on the P&O ship Strathmmore whose official number was 164521. The ship took 963 passngers on this voyage bound for Sydney, Australia. John was listed as a 27 year old motor mechanic, Audrey his wife was 26 and a housewife.2 Audrey died on 16 October 2007 in Australia aged 82.3
