William spent a couple of years on a coastal ship and happened to be in Melbourne at the time of the party given by mutual friends, when he met Elsie. WW1 was declared and they met up again at the same mutual friends home in Sydney.¹ He married Elsie May Wilson, daughter of Thomas Wilson and Maria Rayner, on 11 October 1920 in St Barnabas Church, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.¹ William was the eldest son and five foot ten inches tall and solidly built.
He was a builder with father Frank then during 1930's depression worked part time on a sea-wall at Ramsgate, a suburb of Sydney then toward the end of the depression (1933) he joined the department of fisheries and game as an Inspector until his retirement due to illness in 1952/3. He served in WWl in the 1st Light Horse was in the 2nd wave on Gallipote, then went to England and was transferred to the xxx and served in France until peace was declared.¹ He died on 5 February 1961 in Concord Rehabilitation Hospital, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, aged 67.^1,3 He was buried on 12 March 1961 in Woronora, Wall of Remembrance, Sutherland, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.¹
