     Mary Birks was born about 1829 in Upperthong, Yorkshire, England.1 She was the daughter of Richard Birks and Mary Bowes.1 In the census of 6 June 1841 in Upper bridge, Cartworth, Kirk Burton, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Richard Birks I notice the Woodhead family live next door. Was this the family into which young Mary married?2 She married Joseph Woodhead.1 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Newtown, Upperthong, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of Richard Birks Mary was a dress maker.3 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Fartown, Pudsey, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the wife of Joseph Woodhead Mary was a dressmaker.4

     Joseph Woodhead was born about 1830 in Netherthorp, Yorkshire, England.1 He married Mary Birks, daughter of Richard Birks and Mary Bowes.1 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Newtown, Upperthong, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son in law of Richard Birks Joseph was a tea dealer.2 Joseph was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 7 April 1861 in Fartown, Pudsey, Yorkshire, England, Joseph was living with his wife and parents in law. He was a woollen spinner.3
