The ceremony was witnessed by J W Waller, John Waller, Ann Ede Waller, Jane Neil, Rachelle A Waller and Jane Waller. Charles was a Merchant like his father Thomas and Jane's father Francis.2

     Elton Bechley Ede was born on 20 October 1851 in Childwall, Lancashire, England.1,2,3 He was the son of Henry Ede and Ellen Openshaw.1 He was baptised on 7 March 1852 in St Anne, Aigburth, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, his father was a Merchant.3 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Landowne, Sidmouth, Devon, England, he was listed as the son of Henry Ede.4 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Landowne, Sidmouth, Devon, England, he was listed as the son of Henry Ede.5 The will of Henry was proved by Elton Bechley Ede his son on 12 May 1887.6 He married Ethel Beatrice Topham, daughter of John Topham, on 17 June 1897 in St Jude, Kensington, London, England, after a licence was taken out in St Mary, Bryanston Square on 9 June 1897. The ceremony was witnessed by Emma H Topham, Frances Ede and Charles E Pierton. Elton gave hs address as 13 Upper Berkeley Street and is listed like his deceased father Henry as a Gentleman. Ethel gave her address as 19 Collingham Road. Her father John was also dead and was a MDD.7,8,9 Elton died on 22 May 1914 in 26 Coleherne Court, Kensington, London, England, aged 62.10,6 The will of Elton was proved on 24 August 1914 to his widow Ethel Beatrice Ede and sister Frances Ede. His usual address was Mornington Street in St Mary Church in Devon. His effects were valued at £2919 1s 4d.6

Frances Ede1

     Frances Ede was born on 16 December 1852 in Childwall, Lancashire, England.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Henry Ede and Ellen Openshaw.1 She was baptised on 6 February 1853 in St Anne, Aigburth, Lancashire, England, her father Henry was a broker and they lived in Grassendale Park.3 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Landowne, Sidmouth, Devon, England, she was listed as the daughter of Henry Ede.4 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Landowne, Sidmouth, Devon, England, she was listed as the daughter of Henry Ede.5 The will of Henry was proved by Frances Ede his daughter on 12 May 1887.6 Frances was listed as the head of the family on the census of 5 April 1891 in 32 Wood Lane, Hornsey, London, England, The household consisted of Frances who was a student of medicine, a lodger called Amy Sheppard, also a student of medicine, a visitor Agnes Macdonald a teacher of music and one servant.7 She witnessed the marriage of Ethel Beatrice Topham and Elton Bechley Ede on 17 June 1897 in St Jude, Kensington, London, England.8,9,10 Frances was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 13 Upper Berkeley Street, Marylebone, London, England, Frances was a Medical Practitioner. Amy Sheppard who had also qualified and become a medical practitioner was still boarding with Frances. Genie Sheppard maybe Amy's sister was boarding. Both came from Dudley. There were two servants now.11 Frances was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 13 Upper Berkeley Street, Marylebone, London, England, Frances refused to give the enumerator any infomation about the household. She wrote "No Vote no Census" He wrote on the census form 'Estimate there to be 7 females in house, Dr Frances Ede refused to give me details.12' It would appear that on 14 April 1911, the property of Dr. Frances Ede and Dr. Amy Sheppard, of Upper Berkeley-street, Portman-square, W., were sold by public auction at 26, Lisson-grove, W; Dr. Ede made a protest against the sale in the auction rooms. The speakers at the protest meeting which was held after the sale were Miss Amy Hicks, M.A., Dr. Ede, and Mrs. Anne Cobden Sanderson. This was as a result of her being a member of Women’s Tax Resistance League.13 Frances appeared before Bow Street on 6 March 1912 and London Sessions 26 March 1912. She was held on bail at Aylesbury prison and was imprisoned in Holloway Prison for a 4 months where she and several other Suffragettes went on hunger strike and were force fed. She had been found guilty of maliciously damaging a plate glass window being the property of Robert Dobbie to the amount of £20 and to another plate glass window and two show cases, the property of Leslie Ramage and another to the value of £40. She wrote about her experiences which were published in many newspapers.14,15 The will of Elton was proved by Frances Ede his sister on 24 August 1914.6 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Frances was listed as living at Scearn Bank Crockham Hill, Godstone, Surrey, England, Frances was a retired Doctor Of Medicine living with two servants.16 Frances died on 23 January 1942 in 42a Kenilworth Road, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England, aged 89 she was described as late of Harley Street, and of Scearnbank, Grockham Hill in Kent.17,18,19 The will of Frances was proved on 29 June 1942 in Birmingham to Henry Alan Ede a Senior Inspector of Taxes. Her estate was valued at £8,255 13s 3d.18

     Percy Ede was born in 1854 in Childwall, Lancashire, England.1,2 He was the son of Henry Ede and Ellen Openshaw.1 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Landowne, Sidmouth, Devon, England, he was listed as the son of Henry Ede.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Landowne, Sidmouth, Devon, England, he was listed as the son of Henry Ede.4 He married Pollie Winifred Staples in 1890 in Eastry, Kent, England.5 Percy was listed as the head of the family on the census of 5 April 1891 in 3 Camden Road, Lewisham, London, England, Percy was a Commission Agent living with his wife and son, with one boarder and two servants.6 Percy was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 60 North Gray Road, Bexley Heath, Kent, England, Percy was an electrical agent living with his wife and children.7 Percy was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in Willow Cottage, North Cray Road, Bexley Heath, Kent, England, Percy was a Manufacturing Agent living with his wife and six children in their eight roomed home.8 Percy died on 6 November 1941 in Hove Hospital, Sackville Road, Hove, Sussex, England, his usual address was 60 New Church Road in Hove.9,10 The will of Percy was proved on 18 December 1941 to his son Henry Alan Ede in Birmingham.
