George Greathead was born in 1819 in High Coniscliffe in Durham. He married in 1847 and was listed as a Police Constable in 1851 census of Whickham in Durham. He and his family moved to Crook by 1861 and in 1871 he was described as an innkeeper at the Kings Arms. Policemen often became inn keepers. By 1881 he was described as a Superanuated Police Sergeant, his wife died in 1884 and he remarried in 1886. In 1891 he was again described as an innkeeper and he died in 1896.

|Hairdresser/Barber||John Greathead born in 1816 in Tanworth in Warwickshire worked as a tailor in 1851, a barber and tailor in 1861 and by 1871 and 1881 he was a hairdresser. He died in 1888 leaving his son William Greathead who was born in 1854 to carry on the business until in 191 he was described as a Publican Manager.|
