     Joe Simmonds was born on 6 January 1884 in Farncombe, Surrey, England. He was the son of John Simmonds and Georgina Edworthy. He was the son of John Simmonds in the 1891 census in 3 Raleigh Place, Peperharrow Road, Farncombe, Surrey, England.1 Joe enlisted into the Royal Navy on 7 August 1900 and sailed on the ship St Vincent, his last ship was Victory A in 13 April 1931.2 He appeared in the 1901 census. He was a crew member on board St Vincent based in Portsmouth, Hampshire.3 He died on 13 March 1954 in 110 Waters Road, Catford, London, England, at age 70.4,5 His estate was probated on 12 May 1954 in London to Caroline Susan Daisy Simmonds a widow. His effects were valued at £360 4s.4

     Frederick Simmonds was born in 1865 in Godalming, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Henry Simmonds and Emma Woods. He was the son of Henry Simmonds and Emma Simmonds in the 1881 census in Mill Lane, Farncombe, Surrey, England. Frederick was a general labourer.2 He married Eliza Boxall on 5 October 1889 in St Peter and St Paul, Godalming, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by William Boxall and Elizabeth Jane Marden. Frederick was a labourer like his father Henry Peter Smmonds. Eliza 's father Henry Boxall was also a labourer.3 He was listed as head of household in the 1891 census in Summer Road, Farncombe, Surrey, England. Frederick was a bricklayers labourer living with his wife and children.4 He was listed as head of household in the 1901 census in Bedford Road, Farncombe, Surrey, England.
