     Robin Harold Barnes was born on 6 May 1915 in Guildford, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Ada Dorothy Barnes. He married Gwendoline Irene Boylett, daughter of Albert George Boylett and Florence Eliza Evans, in 1937 in Surrey, England.2 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Robin was listed as living at 70 Queen Street, Horsham, Sussex, England, with his wife Gwendoline. Robin was builders labourer.3 Robin was a Sergeant and member of the 102 Squadron of Bomber Command flying Halifax Bombers based at Pocklington in Yorkshire His service number was 1311751.4 He died on 25 June 1943 in Germany at age 28 The Halifax on which Robin regularly flew, with the six other crew members, took off on 24 June 1943 at 2300 hours on a Ruhr bombing mission led by Flying Officer Lewis and Pilot Officer Perkins. It was damaged by Ack Ack fire, caught fire and crashed. The body of two crew members were recovered and buried at Rheinburg War Cemetery and the rest of the crew are remembered on the RAF Runnymede Memorial. Sergeant Barnes name can be seen on Panel 141 there as well as on the Shamley Green Memorial.4

She married Robin Harold Barnes, son of Ada Dorothy Barnes, in 1937 in Surrey, England.2 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Gwendoline was listed as living at 70 Queen Street, Horsham, Sussex, England, with her husband Robin. Robin was builders labourer.3 Her husband Robin died on 25 June 1943 in Germany.4 Gwendoline was living in 1946 -1951 in Abbots Cottage, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.5 Sometime between 1951 and 1953 she moved and stayed until at least 1962 at Middlecot in Shamley Green.5 She died in 1969 in Surrey, England.6

     John Seaton Burns Ivey was born on 25 July 1913 in Chichester, Sussex, England.1,2 He was the son of Elizabeth Lucretia Ivey. John's address when he wrote his will was Drummond, Stonards Brow in Shamley Green.3 He married Grace Frances Hart in 1937 in Hove, Sussex, England.4 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register John was listed as living at 21 Hove Park Villas, Old Shoreham Road, Hove, Sussex, England, John was an estate agent and valuer, where was Grace was she possibly in Dorset Mental hospital?5 John and Grace must have moved to Shamley Green sometime around 1940-41.6 He died on 28 July 1944 at age 31 Lieutenant 200955 Burns was in A Squadron of 142nd (7th Battalion The Suffolk Regiment) Regiment Royal Army Corps. He received a fatal injury while fighting on the Arno line.1 He was buried in British Empire War Cemetery, Florence, Italy, in plot VI. F. 13.1 His estate was probated on 19 January 1945 in Llandudno to his widow Grace Frances Ivey. His effects were valued at £165 3s 7d.3 John is remembered on Shamley Green War Memorial.

     Arthur John Goff was born in 1920 in Shamley Green, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Arthur John Mark Goff and Emily Maude Parratt. There is a lovely photograph of Arthur who was in the Homeguard with his sons John and Dick.2 He died on 26 July 1945 a prisoner of war taken by the Japanese in March 1942 when Dutch and British Forces in what had been the Dutch East Indies surrendered to overwhelming Japanese air and land forces. He was a Sergeant in the 21 Light Artillery Regiment. His home address was Beverley, Stonards Brow in Shamley Green.3,4 He was buried in Labuan War Cemetery, Borneo, he is also remembered on Shamley Green War Memorial.5 His estate was probated on 8 May 1946 in London to Miss Margaret Winifred Goff. His effects were valued at £466 4s 9d.4

     Arthur John Mark Goff was born on 12 September 1885 in Weymouth, Dorset, England.1,2 He was the son of Arthur Francis Goff and Mary Anne Hicks. He was baptised on 1 November 1887 in St Nicolas, Guildford, Surrey, England, with his siblings Francis, Mary, Margaret and Amy. Their father was an upholsterer and the family lived in Millmead Terrace.2 He was the son of Arthur Francis Goff and Mary Anne Goff in the 1891 census in 9 Mill mead Terrace, Guildford, Surrey, England.3 He was the son of Arthur Francis Goff and Mary Anne Hicks in the 1901 census in 1 Wherwell Road, Guildford, Surrey, England. Arthur was a cabinet makers apprentice.4 He married Emily Maude Parratt on 2 October 1912 in St Peter, Wrecclesham, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by George Parratt, Ada Parratt, Arthur F Goff, Mary Anne Goff and F Trussly. Arthur was a cabinet maker living at South Hill, Guildford. His father Arthur Francis Goff was a tradesman. Emily lived at Red House in Wrecclesham and her father John Parratt was deceased but had been a farmer.5,6 Arthur became a master builder and built many of the houses in Shamley Green. Francis was an upholsterer.3 He married Kathleen Louise Bewsey on 6 December 1904 in St Marys, Guildford, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Thirza Bewsey and John Bartlett. Francis was a master upholsterer like his father Arthur Francis Goff. Their father was an upholsterer and the family lived in Millmead Terrace.1 She was the daughter of Arthur Francis Goff and Mary Anne Goff in the 1891 census 9 Mill mead Terrace, Guildford, Surrey, England.2 She appeared in the household as a boarder in the 1911 census in 32 Southernhay, Exeter, Devon, England.      William Gay Burdett was born on 15 November 1908 in Poplar, London, England.1,2 He was the son of Halford Gay Burdett and Helena Georgina Jewesbury. He was the son of Helena Georgina Burdett in the 1911 census in Beverley, Park Street, Camberley, Surrey, England.3 He married Doris Barbara Wintle in 1927 in St George Hanover Square, London, England.4 He witnessed the marriage of Betty Margaret England and Derek Burdett on 21 May 1930 in St Peter, Cranley Gardens, Kensington, London, England.5 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register William was listed as living at April Cottage, Shamley Green, Surrey, England, with his wife Doris. William was listed as a before the war he was a Personal Assistant to advertising Director. He was a full time special constable and police war reserve.6 His wife Doris died on 11 May 1940 in Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford, Surrey, England, I suspect Wiliam did ot get to hear about the death of his wife before he died himself four days later.7,8 He died on 15 May 1940 at age 31 William was Captain115832 in 4 Supply Personnel Company Royal Army Service Corps and was killed at sea during operations n the Northern Convoy central around Narvik.9,10 William' name appears on Shamley Green War Memorial and Brookwood Memorial panel 15 column 2 and also on his wife's gravestone in Shamley Green graveyard. The Brookwood 1939-1945 Memorial commemorates nearly 3,500 men and women of the land forces of the Commonwealth who died during the Second World War and have no known grave, the circumstances of their death being such that they could not appropriately be commemorated on any of the campaign memorials in the various theatres of war. Some like William died in the campaign in Norway in 1940.11

     Halford Gay Burdett was born on 30 January 1878 in Seaman's Hospital, Greenwich, London, England, he was the eldest son of Sir Henry Charles Burdett of The Lodge, 13 Porchester Square in London W; KCB; KCVO and Helen daughter of the late Gay Shute FRCS.1 He was baptised on 6 March 1878 in St Alphege, Greenwich, London, England, his father was Secretary to Seaman's Hospital.2 Halford was educated at Marlborough College and Pembroke College and then Cambridge. He was a Barrister at Law and Junior Examinerat the Board of Eucation in Whitehall.1 He married Helena Georgina Jewesbury on 10 April 1902 in St Stephens, Westbourne Park, London, England.1 Halford enlisted into the 2nd County of London Yeomanry (Westminster Dragoons as a 2nd Lieutenant on 13 June 1913. he was promoted to Lieytenant in August 1914 and Captain by 11 Deember following being appointed APM to the Headquarters Staff at Tunbridge Wells.1 He died on 3 March 1916 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England, at age 38 from heart failure while on active service.3,1
