William Frank Shorter was born on 2 January 1904 in Chertsey, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Isaac Shorter and Mary Ann Deedman. He was baptised on 28 February 1904 in St Paul, Addlestone, Surrey, England, his father was a gardener and the family lived in Rowtown.2 He appeared in the household of Isaac Shorter and Mary Ann Shorter in the 1911 census in The Gardens, Westwood Lodge, Normandy, Surrey, England.3 He married Dorothy Swayne, daughter of Sidney Henry Swayne and Lilian Emma Whitfield, on 11 November 1933 in St Nicolas, Guildford, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by F M Bullen and W E Harding. William was a fitter and his father Isaac Shorter was a gardener. Dorothy's father Sidney Henry Swayne was a carman. Both William and Dorothy lived at 128 Walnut Tree Close in Guildford.4 He received the probate of the estate of Isaac Shorter on 26 May 1959 in London to Celia Annie Gyatt and William Frank Shorter a maintenance engineer. His effects were valued at £1,185 13s 11d.5 He died in 1979 in Surrey, England.6
