May I wish you all a very happy new year
and may you have health, wealth and happiness.
I hope to correspond with you in 2007
Do write to me
Come to the Bracknell
FHF on 28 January. I will be on the GOONS stand. Please
introduce yourself

The
month started excitedly for me with the birth
of my granddaughter Jessica
another to add to my personal database.
Then
I received a photograph of Alfred
Louis Greathead and his parents Robert
and Sarah
which has opened he questions about this family. Sarah
seems to have been born in Ireland and had a son in USA. However she
married Robert
ten years later in Bolton, England and had another son with him shortly
afterwards. Between 1901 and 1917 when Robert
died they emigrated to Canada. Louis
as he was known married in Canada and had 10 children.
More
photographs arrived of Hannah
Greathead's grandchildren Hilda,
Beatrice
and Harry
with some more information about the family
Information
about Dorothea
Greathead's parents in law and their family arrived and is
included. As usual I followed up this by searching the UK census
sheets
I
received a copy of the death notice of Margaret
(née Bilsand) that appeared in the Telegraph newspaper. I had found
her death on a website but how wonderful to "see" the actual
notice. This article gave a fantastic amount of details of her
family about which I knew very little. Sadly as they lived in
Australia it is difficult to follow this up.
These
are the main items that have changed but as usual I have checked many
sources and added GRO and census source details where not known or found
before.
I
constantly try to check source data.
I
have also updated many of the individual information pages, look around
maybe there is something of interest to YOU?

Once again I
had sad news, my Mum's cousin Tony
died suddenly. I had lost touch with him and only in the last couple
of years had we been corresponding. He found and sent to me a
wonderful picture of my Gran, a lady I did not know, my Mum was very
similar in looks to her Mum.
I have updated
quite a few of the pages of data do look around and see what you
think............
I bit the
bullet and spent some money on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
and added lots of data the Scottish Greatheads
Picked up some
mistranscribed census indexes
I helped on the
GOONS stand at the West Surrey
Family History Fair on Saturday 4 November in Woking, Surrey.
People have
been very kind sending me pictures and bringing my database up to
date. Narratives on "live" people will remain on my
personal database as it does not get included on the website. I love
receiving information on EVERYBODY please keep it coming. See my
blog for more details

We had the very
sad news of the death of Dr
David Greathead
Wow what a
month! It all seems to surround about pictures so kindly being sent to
me. I have "met" many new contacts and hwo knows where
that ay lead
I received a
fantastic picture of Thomas
Greathead. He sailed off to Australia and renamed himself Thomas
Napean Gray. Look at the narratives for his story.
I have added
lots of family around Ada
Emily Banthorp. Searching BMD and census records
More thoughts
around Samuel
Greathead have been explored and added to the database
Then I added
information about Clara
and Pauline,
two of Hannah
Greathead's daughters
Information
about the parents of Alfred
Greathead's third wife, Jane's
parents and brothers.

Been on holiday
this month so not as much as I might have hoped in a usual month.
I am at an
exciting time when I have so many things on the boil, not quite ready to
go on the website. Maybe next time! Read my blog
for up to date news
The
introduction of some BMD entries in US newspapers on Ancestry has however
allowed me to link the Curran family with our Greatheads, through William
Greathead Curran I have discovered that
Frank
Curran born in England about 1838 was the brother in law of John
William Walker Greathead and husband of Elizabeth
Greathead . Need to do some more digging though
I received some
pictures including Jane
Isabella Greathead, her son Arthur,
Grandson Arthur
and daughter Edith.
I have also corrected those that I had as Grandson and should have been
Grandsen. My apologies.
Pictures have
also been included of Elizabeth
Ann Greathead and her family plus some additional information.

This
month I have been approached by several people living in Australia, Jan
and Ray who gave information on Robert,
Tina sent much on Jane
Isabella Greathead and her family, Jennifer on Thomas
Greathead giving a wonderful clue that when he emigrated he changed
his name to GRAY, Cyril gave news on Sarah,
Kevin sent details of John
Henry's first child Jean. Many thanks to all of you, do stay in
touch.
Mike
sent me pictures of his twig Elizabeth
and a couple of pictures that I have added to the unknown picture
page. Do visit it and let me know if you can assist him with any
information.
Sadly
I heard of the death of Owen, the son of Leonard
Bright Greathead from Bruce and Jodi
I
have been using some detective skills to add census details, spouse
details and more GRO references to confirm my data. It is always
good to get full source records. I have also been scanning my
certificates and revisiting the information they contain.
Two
charts have changed have a look at them and see if you can add more Thomas
and John
I
understand from David that two more insects
have been named after him read about them

Animals
and plants containing the name of Greathead
I have
contacted several people on the website genes reunited. The
information is still being collected and will be included next
month. This month I have added several photographs sent to me by
very kind "relatives" This always adds so much to the
website
Despite the
setback at the beginning of the month I have been spurred on by so many
lovely words of support and encouragement I cannot fail but to continue
with the "hobby" that I so enjoy. Thank you one and all
I will be
researching hard during August in the hope of breaking another
brickwall

Lots
of photographs:
Beatrice
's first husband
William
and Alice Sands
née Richards, Their daughter Rachel
married William
Greathead
Colleen
and her sister
Gay at Colleens wedding
A
request to correct my geography and return Middlesborough to it's correct
county - apologies to all
A
“living” distant member of this family has insisted that no further
members of the line of Frances
Greathead appear on my website.
Despite giving my reasons for them being on the website as blood
related to Frances
(agreed some of them quite distant, but that is what happens in family
history) he continued a rather offensive protracted set of Emails.
I do not wish to offend or upset anyone, so if your relation has
now been removed, please accept my apologies
Some
further 1841 and 1871 census Greathead entries that had been
mistranscribed elsewhere but for some strange reason I found them when
"origins" was available free for a day

I
have updated brickwalls and changed
Two
new babies have been added to my database with information being received
from two very proud grandfathers on the same day.
I
accessed the Scottish 1841 census index and found 14 Greathead entries
including Featherstone
Much
data has been added from Ontario certificates from copies that I have
obtained
Generally
some good maintenance and consolidation has taken place with some
wonderful photographs being added. It is summer and I am rather busy
in the garden but would love to hear from YOU if you can help my research
or you wish further information that I may have

The British
Guiana page has been updated with lots of new information and pictures
added to the website
The old chart 14 of the
Greathed's
of Uddens Hall has been amalgamated with chart
22 as the mystery of their link has now been solved.
There is a new chart
14 and I would dearly love to find out where this family came from and
to where they disappeared?
I have added another story about people
of interest - Read about the housewife who was a Russian
spy
Brick
walls have tumbled and changed
A visit to the British Library proved
very successful with information on the careers of the brothers William
Wilberforce Harris Greathed, Hervey
Harris Greathed and Robert
Harris Greathed

It has been eighteen months since this
website was born. So it seemed the time to review it's contents and
it's presentation. Lots of new pages, standard menu on every
page. I hope you find it easier to navigate. Let me know what
you think and don't forget to look at my blog
for daily updates. Of course not all the pages have been completed
but they will...................

I visited the Probate Office and
have now copied all entries from the index for Greathead and all known
variants form 1858-1998. I am working through these and they will
all be entered next month. Some are included already.
More information verified about
the earlier families, but a lot still to do. Please do look at the
brickwalls and help me tumble them down.

February 2006 |
I have now added all the US and
Canadian census material that I can link up. There are several
families still to work on as there are on the England census. At
last I know know what happened to some of those Lincolnshire
families. But in
time I will get them onto the website. More brickwalls probably.
I visited the Family Records
Office in London and downloaded the Registers of Seamen's Services for the
name of Greathead. Wow what a fantastic amount of information.
There were eight entries and they gave the date the person enlisted ,
their seaman registration number, their personal features and all the ships
they served on and when and more besides. As time permits I will add
this data to the relevant people to help bring them to life. I also
pulled off four death duty registers for the name of Greathead. A
good days work.
I must also publicly thank Mike
for sending me a wonderful book that brought "the girls with the
laughing eyes" alive for me. He published the book as a tribute
to his Aunt, Dorothy Robson in 1996. Dorothy's Mum married my second
cousin once removed.

January 2006 |
Lots of American information has been
added this month and will be added to in future months as I have taken the
plunge, since so many of our Greathead family developed the wander lust
and increased my subscription to Ancestry
to the worldwide access. Quite an increase in
subscription but I believe certainly from the census images I have so far
extracted, invaluable.
I have added
information to the Brickwalls that I would like to break
down during 2006, do go to see. With YOUR help this may be possible.
