| Wonersh U3A is one of the
smaller but vibrant groups in Surrey, having around 370 members at present. We
are part of the University of the Third Age, a movement that began in France but is
now widespread over many countries. As part of the Third Age Trust we are able
to access information and resources to help in planning programmes and courses. |
| Wonersh U3A was established over
as AIMS. (Activities and Interests of Mature Students)
following an initiative from the Education Department of the University of
Surrey. Some ten years later we became part of U3A which by then had become a
nationwide organisation. |
| The majority of our meetings are held at
Lawnsmead Hall in Wonersh which can accommodate a wide range of activities. In
addition there is an Events Programme which includes visits to Theatres,
Concerts and Exhibitions for which all members are eligible. Social events
include an annual buffet lunch in January and a members' picnic in July. We also
arrange short holidays, usually abroad. |
| Wonersh U3A in common with all U3A groups is
essentially a self help organisation and members are encouraged to use their
previous experience to lead a group or perhaps teach a subject. Having paid the
annual membership subscription, which is currently £8.00, all Wonersh U3A members are then
entitled to attend any of the programmes or courses for an attendance fee of £1.
Visitors are very welcome for a nominal fee of £2 per meeting. As shown
on the programme, some activities e.g. T'ai Chi and Computer Training may require a higher attendance
fee. |
| If you decide to join Wonersh
U3A you will be sure of a warm welcome and an interesting choice of
activities and programmes |
