Sandown - Isle of Wight - 6 May 2008
Once again all the conditions were favourable for a reasonably short trip, so we decided this was the day for our first trip of the year to the Isle of Wight.  We set off in a fairly light Easterly wind and flew across the Hampshire countryside routing just West of Alton, passing Petersfield and Butser Hill before passing just East of Portsmouth and across the Solent to Ryde.
Wind on the Island was stronger and essentially at right angles to the runway and from the South making the landing difficult.  We bought fuel and then set off to have lunch at the Garden Centre just up the hill from the airfield.  This took us past fire damaged ruins of the Aviator restaurant which looked pretty sad.

The return trip was essentially over the same ground passing Lasham with several yellow rape fields in the area.  Definitely to be avoided in a forced landing!
