     John Kirkup was born about 1817 in Evenwood, Durham, England.2 He married Jane Greathead, daughter of Francis Greathead and Isabella Tweddle, in 1846 in Darlington, Durham, England.1 John was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Haughton le Skerne, Durham, England, John was a baker.3 John was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 7 April 1861 in Haughton le Skerne, Durham, England, John was listed as a labourer.4 John was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Mechanics Institute, Haughton le Skerne, Durham, England, John was an ironworkers labourer.5 He died before 1881.2

     Samuel Towler was born about 1813 in Darlington, Durham, England.1 He married Isabella Greathead, daughter of Francis Greathead and Isabella Tweddle, in 1844 in Darlington, Durham, England.2 Samuel was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at No Gate, Darlington, Durham, England, Samuel was listed as a master Shoemaker and Confectioner, living with his wife who was also described as a Confectioner and their five month old daughter Isabella. Joseph Salkeld a 21 year old single journeyman confectioner and baker was also living with them and was described as an assistant.3
